Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organisation under Government of India to enlist staff for different posts in the different ministries, Departments and Subordinate offices. SSC conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination for the selection of categories of Grade B and C in different Government Ministries, Department and Offices.

Eligibility criteria for SSC CGL courses

The common eligibility criteria for SSC courses are Age Limit, Educational Qualification and Nationality or Citizenship.

  • Educational qualification : Candidate must pass out class 12 from a recognized board and graduation from any recognized University before enrolling in SSC Courses.
  • Nationality : The candidates must be Indian citizens. Candidates belonging to other countries cannot join the course.
  • Age limit : The candidate must be above 18 years of age and below 35 years of age.

The SSC CGL exam syllabus is divided into four phases which are commonly known as Tier - I, II, III, and IV. Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the SSC CGL 2022 examinations are conducted online, while Tier 3 is a written paper test (descriptive), and Tier 4 is a computer skill test.

SSC CGL tier 1 Exam syllabus

  • General intelligence and reasoning : It would include both verbal and non-verbal questions. Analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, conclusion of statement, syllogistic reasoning, and other topics may be covered in this section.
  • General awareness : The questions in this section will be designed to assess the candidate's overall awareness of the environment and how it applies to society. Questions about India and its neighbouring countries will be included in the test, particularly in the areas of history, culture, geography, economics, general policy, and scientific research.
  • Quantitative Aptitude : The questions will be made to assess the candidate's ability to utilise numbers appropriately and their numerical awareness. The test will cover calculation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and number relationships, as well as percentage.
  • English Comprehension : This part will assess the candidate's ability to understand the English language.

SSC CGL tier 2 Exam syllabus exam

  • Quantitative Ability : The questions will be designed to check the candidate's ability to utilise numbers appropriately and their numerical awareness. The test will include the calculation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and number relationships, as well as percentage and solution of geometrical and arithmetical problems.
  • English language and Comprehension : Questions in this section will be based on spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/detecting misspelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, construction of sentences, active and passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct and indirect narration, arrangement of sentence parts, arrangement of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.
  • Statistics : Statistics include- Collection classification and presentation of statistical data, Measures of central tendency, Measures of dispersion, Correlation and Regression, Probability theory, Random Variable and Probability Distributions, Sampling theory, etc.
  • General Studies (Finance and Economics) : It includes Part A (Finance and Accounts) and Part B (Economics and Governance).

SSC CGL Syllabus - Tier 3

Tier 3 is a descriptive exam that evaluates students' English or Hindi writing skills. This offline test requires students to write essays, summaries, applications, and letters (pen and paper style). Candidate will have 60 minutes to complete the exam, which is worth 100 points.

SSC CGL Syllabus - Tier 4

The Tier 4 SSC CGL exam is a computer-based test. The Tier 4 syllabus for SSC CGL 2022 is split into two parts:

  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
  • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)

DEST : The DEST (Data Entry Speed Test) is a typing test that is used to assess a candidate's typing skills. In 15 minutes, candidates must type 2000 words in English on a computer. Candidates are provided with an English article to type on a computer. For the post of Tax Assistant, the DEST Exam is used to assess a candidate's typing speed (Central Excise and Income Tax).

CPT : The Computer Proficiency Test, or CPT, is conducted to evaluate a candidate's knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Slide Generation. For the positions of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), the SSC tests these skills.
